Coral Reef – Dinah’s Story – 2020
Paintings – Acrylic on Canvas – 40 x 40 cm (pre-stretched)
Coral Reefs are all around Yanyuwa Country. They are like underwater flower gardens. These reefs appear often in Dinah’s work and form an important part of her connection to the sea and all of its inhabitants. Dinah comes from a long line of ‘salt water people’ and grew up harvesting from the sea around the Sir Edward Pellow Islands. Some of these islands are traditional homelands for Dinah’s tribal group and they moved between the islands and the mainland in dugout and bark canoes. Dinah was born in a dugout canoe during one such journey.
