Wild Bush Flowers After the Rain – 2020
Paintings – Acrylic on Canvas – 61 x 61 cm
“When the wet season comes my country changes from orange dust to every lovely colour with flowers and green plants. Some plants are good for eating, some for bush medicine and some for weaving.”
Jemima loves to record the changing seasons of her country and the flowers that bloom, both in the water and on the land. As a senior Yanyuwa woman who was born in the bush and raised in a traditional camp, her connection to of the environment and it’s vital role in sustaining life is still extremely strong. Flowers, plants, water holes, termite hills – these are not just pretty pictures to Jemima, but the essence of life, sustenance and survival.
